Nicole Sandler called in to Thom Hartmann’s radio program yesterday and described the unbelievably horrible treatment she was given while in prison. At one point she was locked into a closet with a few people while the cell was being cleaned and was literally forgotten about! When she complained about the treatment, they punitively put her in solitary confinement for several hours! And, even worse, when she complained about being in solitary confinement, she was maced! A ridiculous travesty. The Bradley Manning treatment is happening at every level. You are now guilty until proven innocent – IF you ever have a chance to prove you are innocent.

No, it’s the way of the Republican party. Remember the McCarthy hearings? How about the non-stop investigations into Bill Clinton’s personal life and the jailing of Susan McDougal for refusing to lie to incriminate Clinton? And the prosecution and jailing of Tommy Chong for political purposes. And of course, there’s the Don Siegelman case where he was put in prison for funding education.
The Republican party is a party of fascism. It has been for a long time and will continue to be.
Thanks for the comment, Ben. I have no doubt that the republicons have become the party of fascism, but I guess I was hoping that the Democrats wouldn’t also condone it. That’s my real disappointment. I expected a little better from Mr. Constitutional Scholar/Lawyer. The administration has done nothing about the Siegelman case, that’s another disappointment.
